Instant Rava Appe / appam / Paniyaram – This is one quick healthy snack. kids love taking this in their school lunch boxes. This Instant version is made with Rava / Suji or Semolina. Taste is quite similar to rava uttapam but it is a lot of less work as these are cooked in a batch at a time. This makes these perfect to serve a large crowd too.
These are crispy outside and soft inside. You can vary the veggies you add to these. In winter we add cabbage, peas, carrots also. The best thing about this recipe is that we can make it in large quantities without exerting much effort. And we can pack them to take with us on picnics also 🙂
Don’t they look Mouthwatering? I always end up eating 3-4 right after taking them out of the appe pan;-)
These are that good believe me 🙂
How to make Instant Rava Appe
Instant Rava Appe
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 cup Rava/ Suji/ Semolina
- ½ cup Curd
- salt to taste
- ½ cup of water
- 1 tbsp oil for sautéeing+ 1 tbsp oil for greasing Appe pan
- 1 green chili chopped
- ½ tsp grated ginger
- 1 onion chopped
- ½ capsicum chopped
- 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
- 12-15 Curry leaves
- 1/4 Tsp Eno/ baking soda
Instructions
To make Instant Rava Appe
- First of all mix Rava and curd in a bowl. Add salt to it. Mix water and make a batter. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Sauté green chilies, ginger, onions, and capsicum for 1-2 minutes. Add this to the Rava batter. Mix in curry leaves and coriander leaves also. Give it a good mix. You can add more water if required.
- As I prepared Appe in two batches I divided the batter in half and then added Eno just before cooking to both batches ( 1/8tsp for each batch)
- This is the consistency the batter should have. Heat Appe pan on high flame. when it is hot grease the pan. As I use the iron pan I need more oil for greasing. If you are using Nonstick or anodized Appe pan you can get away with using less oil for greasing. Appe pan should be hot before we start pouring the batter.
- When Appe pan is ready, add Eno or baking soda to the batter and give it a quick mix.
cook Appe
- With a spoon, quickly fill the Appe pan with batter. Cover it with a lid and let it cook on medium flame.
- In 2-3 minutes you will see that corners are turning brown. Turn one or two Appe to check if they are cooked or not with the help of a spoon or fork.
- Turn all the appe and cook from the other side for another 2-3 minutes. When it is cooked from both sides switch off the flame, take all the Appe out. Cook the next batch in the same way.
Serve Appe
- Your hot yummy Appe is ready. Serve them hot with green chutney, coconut chutney or tomato ketchup.
