These tips are for all stressed-out mothers who face this challenge everyday…
How to make your kids eat vegetables? How to make them eat fruits? They don’t like milk so how will they get enough calcium and vitamins etc?…. And it could be a really big list. I love to eat and cook. My kids ( one is 10 years old and the younger one is 4 years old) also love to eat but not the healthy type of food but junk food or dishes with minimum or no veggies in them. We all know how essential it is for kids to eat healthy food and how difficult it is to feed them. But we can transform picky eaters into good eaters.
These are some of the ideas I use to get them to eat vegetables and fruits
Strike the iron when it’s hot– Serve them food when they are hungry. During snack time, serve fruits or a colorful salad with low-fat salad dressing. Make a rule of having them taste everything that is on the table. After some time they will develop a taste for everything.
Take your pick- Give them a choice of five vegetables and tell them to choose one. Let us say they choose carrot for this season. So this season whenever you make a carrot they will eat it without fuss on the condition that you will not force them to eat the other four vegetables that season. By the end of the season, your child will actually start liking carrots.
Little chefs- under your supervision involve them in the kitchen to prepare the menu, sandwiches, salads, etc. Take them with you for shopping and make them pick vegetables and fruits of their choice. They would surely eat the new vegetable that they bought or cooked.
Snacking on fruits– While watching TV, if you serve them fruits or salad they will readily eat it. In the beginning, they will start with small portions but over a period of time, they will actually start asking for more.

Play the restaurant game- Pretend as if they are visiting a restaurant and you are the waiter cum chef. Let them order their meal. A game that will not only make them eat but also teach them proper manners while eating out.
Hide vegetables- Boil or microwave the veggies and mash them in the mixer. Add this puree to soups, pasta, lasagne, or curries. That way Kids will not be able to smell veggies and they will happily eat them.

Share food of their taste- If they like pizza, burgers you can make them healthier by topping it with lots of fresh veggies.
Reward– Sometimes you can reward your children for eating vegetables. If they eat veggies in lunch tell them you will prepare one of their favorite dishes for dinner.
Start early – Offer your toddlers different soups, vegetables, and fruits to help develop a taste for them from an early age itself.

I have no erxcpienee with teenagers. That is why I put my kids ages at the top of the post, because what work for a 2 & 4 year old will be much different than what would work for a teenager. Good luck!
